Alina Habba has left her position as the chief federal prosecutor in the state. This follows a court battle that invalidated her eligibility to hold the office.

Attorney General's Statement

The nation's top law enforcement official, Pam Bondi, accepted Habba's resignation on Monday. She commented that the judicial decision made it "untenable" for Habba to perform her duties.

"Let no one confuse compliance for surrender," Habba stated. "My fight will now extend throughout the country."

Judicial Challenge

Habba's exit follows closely on a federal appellate panel found that she had been serving in violation of the law as the top prosecutor. This judgment is could influence many prosecutions in the state.

The judicial panel ruled that a interim role that bypassed confirmation by the US Senate ran afoul of the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.

Ongoing Legal Battle

Bondi said that the former prosecutor will continue working within the DOJ as a high-level advisor. Habba plans to challenge the decision of the disqualification, in the hope of achieving a reversal.

On a social media platform, Bondi wrote that the court "cannot be permitted to second-guess the President's choice of attorneys tasked with performing the primary duty of the administration of enforcing the law."

Performance in Office

Bondi highlighted her tenure and pointed out that during her run, the Newark saw a 20% reduction in criminal activity. It was also reported that the southern city of Camden recorded its first summer in half a century without a homicide.

Connection to Donald Trump

Habba, 41, was initially recruited to Donald Trump's lawyers in 2021. Subsequently, she defended Trump in his New York criminal case in the previous year, when he was conviction on 34 counts of document fraud.

Before her appointment to the top New Jersey post, the former president had stated he was appointing her as his White House advisor during his second administration, describing Habba as deeply loyal and a dedicated fighter for justice.
